Improve Home Air Quality

Common air pollutants in your home can lower the air quality you and your family breathe. Follow these tips to help reduce pollutants and improve the air quality in your home.

Regular house cleaning can help reduce dust mites, pollens and pet dander. On dry days, open the windows and air out the house. It will help dilute the concentration of pollutants in the air

Prevent moisture from collecting in the kitchen, laundry room, and bathroom by using exhaust fans. Keep stove and oven properly ventilated and that the vents are not obstructed. Replace or clean your air conditioner’s filter regularly.

Use plants to remove indoor pollutants. Many houseplants are natural air purifiers such as palms, ferns, peace lilies, spider plants, rubber plants, chrysanthemums, ivy and dracaena.

Do not mix household cleaners as they may be harmful if inhaled. Consider using non-toxic, natural products to clean such as baking soda, lemon juice, vinegar, and borax.

Try to limit the use of candles, incense, or other products that produce soot.

For interior paint, choose water-base products that have low VOC, the same kind of chemicals found in gasoline and nail polish.
